The Special Beauty of Berber Rugs

The Berber have been a part of Moroccan history from the beginning. They existed before the Arab people largely associated with North Africa today. There's evidence to suggest that they're descendants of prehistoric North African tribes. Omnipresent in cities such as Marrakech, Fez and villages along the Algerian border today, the Berber can also still be found in traditional villages across the High Atlas Mountains. Their talent at creating beautiful things from natural materials is one of the first things that visitors to Morocco notice. Because of their one of a kind distinctiveness, Berber carpet attracts buyers from around the world. Some are most responsive to their weight and texture. Others admire the handmade energy that radiates from the ancient approach with which they're woven. Anyone who has fallen under the spell of one would agree that there's something about Berber rugs that's mesmerizing.

Berber carpets are made of a variety of materials that include sheep wool, cotton and camel hair. It's increasingly common for them to contain synthetic materials such as nylon. The patterns on them are typically quite simple. They're often rough to the touch. You could say that they're the opposite of Oriental rugs. While much of North African architecture has a majestic Islamic feel to it, Berber carpet is shockingly simple in terms of the materials used to make it. The same could be said of its minimalist and abstract patterns, which is why it stands out. Berber carpet is loud in its simplicity. Few can overlook the presence of one on a floor or pinned to a wall in a room.

Women tend to be carpet weavers. They tend to follow a Berber tradition of mothers training young daughters to create rugs on simple looms. Berber rugs have everyday functions. They provide warmth in the winter, for example. The making of them is also a rite or ritual that defines Berber culture.

There are a number of different Berber tribes. Someone knowledgeable about Moroccan carpet weaving culture can tell what region of the Middle Atlas a rug was made simply looking at its patterns or recognizing the way with which it was embroidered. Some designs and styles are now obsolete and no longer being made, which is why vintage Berber rugs are such high-value keepsakes.

Berber rugs being produced today are commonly dyed with synthetically derived colors. Rugs made from traditional sources such as plant roots, wild berries and even the shells of certain insects have a much more vivid appearance. In fact, many prefer to own naturally dyed carpet because the colors grow more beautiful over time. Of course, the techniques used to dye Berber rugs are often guarded by the individual tribes who create them. The technique of dyeing a Berber rug is a rigorous art form in and of itself that's not at all something simple to learn and duplicate, which is just another example of the magic that goes into the production and design process of these consistently sought after rugs.

I Made My Daughter's Piñata!

My youngest daughter just turned 11 months old the other day, which means next month, she'll have her 1st birthday! I've decided that we will throw her a party since it is her first birthday! I've invited a few Filipina friends with their kids of course! I have a few activities and games that I would like to do on her birthday so the kids can have a good time. One of those activities/games is beating a Piñata!

So I went to Walmart yesterday to check out their Piñatas and was shocked to see that an empty one is almost $20! And by time you get the candies to put inside which is almost $10, I will be paying almost $30 which I find ridiculous! We just do not have that much money to spend on just one activity, so I decided to make my own Piñata which is pictured below.

As you can see in the right picture, the Piñata is made from a pizza box, yes I cleaned the inside with a clorox wipe! This Piñata only cost me the price of the tissue paper which I only used 2 sheets of each color! And of course I'll have buy some candies and goodies to put inside for the kids to go crazy about! Anyway, in the left picture is the finished product! It's not perfect but I'm sure the kids will enjoy beating the goodies out of it!

There's No Such Thing As Easy Money!

I now fully believed that there is no such thing as easy money unless of course, you're doing something illegal like robbing a bank or sell drugs! But if you want a clean and honest earnings, there's always hard work involve either you're doing it outside by working for somebody else or at home!

I am a stay-at-home mom for almost 12-years now. I have not yet to experience what it's like to go to work I did not need to! My husband had enough in savings to feed a family of four that time although he's not working due to work related injury! But just a couple of years ago, we hit a financial crisis, the savings are gone and our family has just gotten bigger! Talking about having a hard time financially! It's not easy at all! I wished for a while that I could go to work but it's just not possible because I have 3 kids to take care of and a husband who is sick most of the time!

Even though I have sideline jobs online, it is just not enough! So with the encouragement with some of my friends, I decided to sell made to order Filipino bread to my Filipino friends! I started last year, it was slow at first, I did not have that many customers, but thanks to my friends who ordered from me, words got out, and now I have enough orders to make at least $100 a week! Hopefully, it will continue that way! But I will tell you, it is a lot of work! Just last night, I stayed up until 4 in the morning just to finish an order. My back was hurting so bad from standing for so long! So I can definitely attest that there is no such thing as easy money and I've learned how to appreciate every penny now!!!

Pictures above are the most recent pics that I took of my little girl just taken this morning after attending the morning mass. She is now 9 months, 2 weeks and 6 days old and will be turning 10 months old next month! Time flies indeed! It feels like, it was only yesterday that I gave birth to her. I can still feel the pain of labor pushing her out! What a memorable day that was!

Anyhow, I am very excited for her first birthday this coming April 9th! I know it is still a few months away but I am already planning it, and I actually started inviting people! It's better to plan ahead than doing it at the very last minute!

Pictures above shows what our Christmas 2016 looked like in our household! The kids enjoyed opening their gifts on Christmas morning from us, friends and of course Santa, although they didn't get everything on their lists, but they were very much appreciative!

Later that day, my mother-in-law came for Christmas dinner and we opened more presents! Everybody seemed to love everything they got, including me which I got a very nice pair of winter boots! I am very excited to wear it, so bring it on winter! LOL!

My 5-Year Old's Christmas Wishlist!

My middle child just turned 5 years old over a week ago! He had a wonderful birthday celebration even though he didn't really get what he wanted most on his birthday and that is a tablet! I didn't want to spend a lot of money buying expensive presents when Christmas is coming! So I saved the tablet for Christmas.

Anyway, my oldest son wrote a Christmas wishlist and asked us to mail it for him. We told him we will after his little brother makes his. Since he doesn't know how to write yet, I had to help himmake his wishlist! Picture above is what he had written! I am just so proud of him for writing it although I had to show him which letters to write to compose the letter! It took a while but he did a good job writing it by himself!

Anyhow, as you can see on the wishlist, he doesn't really have that much which I am thankful since Santa is broke this year! LOL! The tablet is number 1 which Santa will be bringing but definitely not the Ipod! Too much electronics already! He might get the FNAF which means Five Night's at Freddy's in case you don't know what it meant! Kids are going gaga over this video game characters! But I'm sure that even if Santa won't bring FNAF, he will still be happy as long as the tablet is there! ;)

Princess Carriage Rocker For $40

I first saw the advertisement for this company's rocker on Facebook. I clicked on it because the rockers are absolutely adorable and they were advertised as 40% off plus free shipping. So I checked their site out of curiosity, thinking that if they're reasonable enough I might just buy my baby Angela one for Christmas. Well, I was so disappointed to find out that the rockers are priced at $159 (pictured above on the left) and even after 40% off and free shipping, it is still very pricey! But I already made up my mind that this is what I want to get my little princess for Christmas.

I browsed online thinking that I would be able to find it cheaper than the company's website. I saw some on Zulily for $69.99 plus shipping, still expensive in my opinion! I looked on Ebay, there are a lot of them listed, most are still retail price! I wasn't looking for specific design! I kept looking and looking until I found the Princess Carriage Rocker pictured above on the right. That was the actual picture listed on Ebay. It was listed as used, asking price was $69.99 with free shipping, and the seller was accepting offers. After reading the descriptions, I found out that the electronics in it didn't work, but I didn't really care about the electronics built in, that's just less noise that we'll have to deal with! So I thought maybe I will send an offer for $40 since the electronic didn't work. I sent my offer and lo and behold, I got a response immediately that the seller accepted my offer! I was so thrilled about it because I saved so much money from buying it brand new! There are things that I do not mind buying used, as long as they're clean and sanitized and not undergarments! LOL! The baby is not going to care if a toy is used or brand new or how cheap or expensive it is! The fun that she'll get out of it is the same no matter how new or used or cheap or expensive it is!!

Anyway, the rocker came the other day. I am really pleased that it looks new! I was really curious about how the baby would react to it, so I let her ride on it for a few minutes and she ABSOLUTELY loved it!! I really hated that I had to put it up 'coz I have never seen her enjoyed something as much as she did with that rocker! I am really excited for Christmas to come, not because so I can get gifts, but so I can see my kids open their presents, especially my baby girl, it will be her first Christmas and I cannot wait to see her enjoy that rocker again!!!

Baby Angela Is Now Potty Training At 5 Months Old!

I am just so proud of my baby Angela! I started potty training her almost 2 weeks ago at 5 months old and so far so good! She hadn't pooped in her diaper for over a week until just a couple of days ago when she was having diarrhea, I couldn't get her to the bathroom on time! But other than that, her potty training has been very smooth!

If I have known before that it was this easy to potty train a baby this young, I would have potty trained my boys this early! My oldest son took the longest, at almost 4 years old while my second son, I got him potty trained at about a little over a year old! My goal with baby Angela is to have her potty trained before she turns one! I personally think that it is a lot easier to potty train baby this young because they do not know how to rebel yet! LOL!

Maximizing Your Budget When There Is A Special Ocassion

Buying gifts for somebody when there is a special occasion like birthday or anniversary can be very costly at times. Especially nowadays, kids are always wanting the newest gadgets! My middle son will be turning 5 years old in November. I know that is still several months away but I always like to browse around and check for the best deals. He already told us what he really wants to receive on his birthday and that is a tablet. On the other hand, I have something else in mind that is a bit cheaper!

But I guess, since his brother got one for his birthday, it is just fair that he gets one too. So I have been browsing Groupon Goods to see if I can find a fairly good deal on a tablet and on some other things! This is one of the things that I love about Groupon. You can pretty much buy anything there that would make a great gift to anybody of all age! My husband's birthday is in October so I will have to find him a gift too. I am going to buy their gifts on there at the same time to save more money! Groupon is the perfect place to maximize your dollars when you're on a budget, that is why I love this site so much!

30th Birthday Keepsake Gift!

I turned 30 years young over a month ago, so this is kind of a late post! I have been meaning to post this keepsake gift that I bought to remember my 30th birthday. Well, it's basically my husband's gift in the form of cash but I picked out the gift myself.

I want to remember my 30th birthday not because of how much was spent, oh trust me, we are so low on moolah that we didn't spend that much celebrating. It was just another simple celebration with family as usual. But what made it very special was, we had a beautiful addition to the family and that to me was the best birthday gift this year, my beautiful baby Angela Danielle!

I decided to buy a personalized name necklace that has footprints as pendants and my kid's names printed on it! I first saw the necklace on Facebook's suggested post. I just fell in love with the necklace and I knew this was the one that I want to be the token of my 30th birthday. This is a reminder that I am beyond blessed, maybe not financially, but on things that are more valuable in life! My three kids are my biggest accomplishments that I reached when I turned 30 years old! So this necklace signifies that accomplishment! I am so thankful to GOD for giving and trusting me these beautiful and precious gifts!!

I Have Become Wise When It Comes To Shopping!

This is a sponsored post written by me. All opinions expressed are 100% of my own!

Everything is getting more expensive every time I go to the store, it is ridiculous! A lot of people who are on fixed incomes like us can hardly afford anything, between paying bills every month and buying groceries for a family of 5! So I have become wise when it comes to shopping by using coupons whether I shop online or in-store!

We live in the country, so we don't really go out that often except for important things like going to the grocery store, doctor's appointments or if there is something urgent that we need! Other than that, I pretty much prefer to shop online.

When I do, before I purchase anything, I make sure it's on sale, I do not like to pay full price and the most important thing is finding coupons to get double savings! There are many websites that I go to, to check for coupons, and one of those sites is Groupon. I'm sure you've heard of that site before!

They have become so popular in the past years because of the good deals and Groupon Coupons that they offer! From Bare Necessities to car rentals, hotels and more, even local deals are available. So every time I buy online, I always make sure to check out this site to get as much savings as possible!!

Another Means of Making Extra Money Is Going Bye-Bye!

Well, this really sucks! Another means of making extra money for me is going to be shutting down later this month! That means I'll be making less money when this goes away. I just hate it! But what can I do about it, literally nothing! Just expressing my frustration here!

The past years have been really, really bad for me financial wise! I did have many sidelines to make extra cash online but, they're slowly disappearing! About 3 years ago, I could easily make about $300 total of my online sidelines, but now, I'll be lucky if I can make $50! I am really so frustrated about it! I guess I'm going to have to sell stuff on Ebay again like my husband has been sermonizing me about!!! :(
